Information Governance
Information is your organization’s most valuable asset. Information Governance is a discipline for managing information that creates a holistic view of information in your organization.
Unfortunately, information management is often left up to technical personnel in IT to manage and those employees may only haveĀ an understanding of a small subset of your organization’s information universe.
Information Governance is interdisciplinary and your IG committee should include representation from IT, Legal, Records Management, HR, and other disciplines in order to develop comprehensive plans for how all you information and information services should be managed.
To put it all into perspective, IT Governance, IT Service Management (ITSM), and Information Security are all sub components of IG. None of these functions should be operating in a vacuum; they should be operating under a comprehensive governance structure.
